CPAD (Community Public Access Defibrillator)

Earlier in the year Skeffling Parish was recognised by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service as having limited access to a community defibrillator thus delaying treatment in the event of a cardiac arrest.

As a Council we decided to source funding for a defibrillator, to be installed at a cost of approx £1400. To date this has been a difficult task as we appear to have "missed the boat" on many funding avenues. We have been dealt a blow recently, being unsuccessfull in achieving a National Lottery Awards For All Grant. Frustratingly, the Lottery Fund has ensured the installation of many defibrillators across the country.

Our Village Hall Committee have given the project a boost by donating the proceeds from this years Burn's Supper to the Defibrillator Fund, a sum in excess of £400 so we are well on our way.

We were contacted recently by the office of Graham Stuart MP who is campaigning to achieve full defibrillator coverage throughout Beverley and Holderness. This is the CADEY (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire) campaign which by signing up to, enables more options for match funding.

At this months meeting we voted to join the CADEY campaign. This will involve further fundraising as only fifty percent match funding is available. Councillor Hayden Wykes agreed to be our CADEY champion, who will oversee the funding application as and when we achieve our funding target.

The Village Hall Committee have agreed to help us with further funding from their next couple of events, this is greatly appreciated.

If any local businesses or indeed individuals would like to help financially please get in touch with any Councillor or Village Hall Committee member.

Update:

We have been notified of our successful grant application for the defibrillator. This is to fund half the cost of the unit, the rest will be met from the Village Hall committee's fund raising efforts. There are a couple more loose ends to tie up before the defibrillator can be purchased, hopefully we'll have this installed in the very near future.
